NEJC Faces: Jason McLain, butcher at Werner’s Specialty Foods


“I’ve lived here my whole life. I remember as a kid coming over here to get sausages on the stand with my parents, waiting in the line together. I used to work across the street at Beamers Bar and Grill when it was over there, and on Saturdays I’d look across the street and see the line, and was still intrigued by it. It’s been running strong for a long time now. I came in one day and filled out an application and ran with it. I’ve been here about a year and a half now. I’m excited about what I’ve learned. How to butcher meat. How to take care of the shop. Making sure I have enough meat cut for everyone to buy. I’m happy here. I really like it.”
