Food on Friday: Fun with funfetti

By Julia Westhoff

My girls and I will always choose sprinkles. On donuts, cupcakes or pancakes, I believe that sprinkles are proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy (I know for some of you that’s beer – we are almost the same). So when deciding what cake to bake Daisy for her 3rd birthday party tomorrow, it didn’t take long for us all to settle on Funfetti.

Funfetti was certainly my birthday cake of choice growing up, and it has not lost its appeal as the years have gone on. Only now instead of using the box mix with all of its strange ingredients, I decided to make it myself (with only one strange ingredient – are sprinkles even food? Anyways…).

After consulting several recipes, I chose this one, from Sally’s Baking Addiction. Sally is clearly an expert – dozens of her recipes involve sprinkles and they are showcased on both of her book covers. The results are exactly what I could hope for, perfect for any sprinkle-loving 34-year-old. Err…I mean…3-year-old.

Here’s the recipe!
