Crews have begun removing trees in the last remaining vacant lot in Mission Woods to make way for an expanded parking lot for The University of Kansas Hospital’s Westwood Administration Center.
Mission Woods Mayor Robert Tietze said the lot will be expanding to the east and the south of the existing surface parking lot. He expects excavation to begin on the site soon.
Hospital spokeswoman Jill Chadwick said the lot will increase the capacity for employee parking from 74 to 230 spaces. The hospital has seen increased demand for parking space at the Westwood facility as its cancer treatment, mammography and internal medicine practices at the location have grown.
The project is being managed by McKownGordon construction. Chadwick said the parking lot is expected to be operational by November.
