The brother and sister responsible for a child who had to be freed by a stranger from a dangerously hot car in Merriam Saturday have been arrested and are scheduled to make their first appearance in Johnson County Court today.

Marques Anderson, 23, and Mylesha Anderson, 24, are charged with aggravated child endangerment and being held in Johnson County Jail on $25,000 bond.

Merriam police had interviewed the Andersons at the scene and referred the case to the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office which filed the charges.

Sarah Oropeza was working in a shoe store at Merriam Town Center, the strip mall in the 5800 block of Antioch Road, Saturday afternoon when she saw the toddler in the car. Oropeza reported that the toddler, who was related to the Andersons, was covered in sweat. She began banging on the car window to break it and free the child. A video of the incident has attracted national news attention.
