The Country Club of Leawood took a step toward solidifying what looks to be a new Country Club Swim Association of Kansas City dynasty last week.
Leawood edged second place Kansas City Country Club and third place Indian Hills Country Club to win its third consecutive CCSAKC title on Friday as championships competition wrapped up at Blue Hills Country Club. Leawood had won the swim title every year since 1987 until Indian Hills ended the streak with an upset win in 2011. Indian Hills repeated in 2012, but Leawood got back to the top of the podium in 2013 and hasn’t lost since.
While none of the northeast Johnson County clubs could unseat Leawood this year, the championships did see a handful of area swimmers set new CCSAKC records.
Cailey Grunhard set new records in both the girls 15 and over 50 meter backstroke with a time of 29.53 seconds; and the girls 15 and over 50 meter butterfly with a time of 27.83. And from Kansas City Country Club, the boy 9-10 200 meter freestyle relay team of Ben Perin, Gus Moseley, August Thompson and Nolan Reuter set a new record of 2:22.66.
