NEJC residents interested in tasting beer and supporting the Prairie Village Jazz Festival can head to Johnny’s Tavern at Corinth Square tonight for a special fundraising event. For $15, patrons get a tasting flight of five beers and appetizers, with proceeds going to support the Prairie Village Jazz Festival, which is set for Saturday, Sept. 12.

Southbound lane of of State Line Road to be narrowed as 75th Street construction continues. Crews working on the major revamp of 75th Street from State Line Road to Mission Road will be reducing the width of the southbound lane of State Line Road. The work will also limit motorists ability to turn left from State Line Road northbound onto 75th Street. Other delays should be expected as well.

SM East’s Andy Spencer named Star All-Metro Golfer of the Year. The awards keep piling up for incoming SM East senior Andy Spencer. Spencer, who won the Kansas 6A boys golf individual title this May, last week was named the recipient of this year’s Kenneth Smith Award. Donations taken for family at Roeland Park Police Department. After the shawneemissionpost.com story ran Thursday morning about the Roeland Park police officer who reached out to help a woman and her children caught shoplifting, many readers asked how they could help. Any donations  – monetary only – can be dropped off at the Roeland Park Police Department and they will get them to the family. The story attracted lots of attention from other media after it ran.  A TV interview with the mother can be seen here. A fundraiser also was held yesterday evening by a local radio station.

Mission ArtWalk Saturday. The second Mission ArtWalk of the summer will take place Saturday along Johnson Drive. The ArtWalk will feature local artists on the sidewalks from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
