School is out for the summer, but the SM East robotics team, otherwise known as Sargon 2335, was in action over the weekend at the giant Maker Faire at Union Station.

Along with about 10 other high school robotics teams from across the metro, Sargon was part of a Showcase Event designed to show off the robots that were built during the 2015 competition season. Each year high school robotics teams receive a kit and a new challenge in January and have only weeks to build a robot that can meet the challenge in competition.

In 2015, the international challenge – called the Recycle Rush – was to grab and stack totes amid the chaos of infused by the other teams. The 2015 robots for SM East and SM North will get their next workout at the Cowtown Throwdown, a Lee’s Summit event that attracts teams from several surrounding states.

The SM East team has approximately 30 members. Cassy Roque, Gabi Case and Eric Blom guided the robot in the Maker Faire showcase.
