Merriam events continue with Food Truck Tuesday. Merriam’s week of events that started with the placement of the more than 1,300 U.S. flags around the downtown area Saturday continues today with Food Truck Tuesday. Five food trucks will be at the Merriam Marketplace today from 11 a.m. through 2 p.m. The trucks accept cash or card and will make a donation from the proceeds to support Flags 4 Freedom. The events continue with entertainment at the Wednesday evening farmers market and a concert celebrating the flags at 1:55 p.m. Saturday.
Roeland Park police plan traffic blitz. The Roeland Park Police Department will be out Friday night conducting a special traffic blitz between 10:30 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning. This special enforcement will be for people who do not have a valid driver’s license. A similar enforcement last year resulted in 54 tickets being issued, 23 vehicles towed and one DUI arrest.
SM East golfer to be awarded Kenneth Smith honor. The recipient has yet to be announced, but a SM East golfer on Wednesday will be given the top award for a high school golfer in the metro area. An award ceremony is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday for a male golfer to receive this year’s Kenneth Smith Award, which recognizes the Kansas City area golfer who has “best demonstrated excellence” in performance, academic achievement, leadership and community service. It will be the third time an SM East golfer has won the award under head coach Ermanno Ritschl.
