American School & University magazine documents uses of Shawnee Mission closed schools. American School & University magazine this week published a piece on its website documenting the current uses of nearly 30 Shawnee Mission School District schools that have closed. Many, including Skyline Elementary in Roeland Park and Porter Elementary in Prairie Village, were in northeast Johnson County. TV covers Shanwee Mission elimination of kindergarten fees. WDAF this week ran a story on the impact on families’ budgets of the Shawnee Mission School District’s move to eliminate all-day kindergarten fees and textbook fees for the elementary level. Movies in the park starts in Westwood. The 2015 Movies in the Park program kicks off tonight at Joe Dennis Park at 50th and Rainbow in Westwood. From 5 to 9 p.m. a bounce house will be in the park for children and from 7 to 9 p.m. the Plantain District food truck will be available. At 9 p.m. the movie – Jurassic Park – starts. Admission is free and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. If the weather is bad, the event will move into the community room at Westwood City Hall. More movie nights are planned for July 17 (Big Hero 6) and Aug. 7 (The Princess Bride).
