A new branch of the franchise “Gigi’s Cupcakes” is now open in Mission. The cupcake chain whose motto is “give us a swirl” opened its doors late last month. Gigi’s will kick off it’s Mission location with a grand opening party this Saturday featuring the company founder Gigi Butler, as well as giveaways, prizes and face painting.
Named after the founder, the franchise first started in Nashville, Tennessee, and has since spread to 23 states, with three locations in Kansas/Missouri including Overland Park, Blue Springs and the most recent addition in Mission.
Store manager Jennifer Scott says that the goal of Gigi’s is to put a spin on the traditional cupcake with unique flavors — like double stuff oreo or champagne — using premium ingredients to give every cupcake a homemade feel.
Scott has been with Gigi’s since March where she began at the Blue Springs location before moving to the Mission store. She says the location was researched and chosen to fit the demographic of the area.
“I went to pastry school and cupcakes and baking has always been a love language for me, even when I was six-years-old with an easy bake oven so it just kind of went into the cupcake business,” Scott said. “The standard is so high here and that just made me fall in love with the company.”
Gigi’s offers gourmet cupcakes, like their most popular “wedding cake” flavor, but also offers other sweets like their signature “stuffed cookies” — buttercream frosting sandwiched between chocolate chip or snickerdoodle cookies — as well as loaves of bread and custom cakes for weddings, birthdays and events. Gigi’s offers catering services, and is “more than happy to accommodate any sort of custom order,” Scott says.
Gigi’s also offers daily gluten free options, specialty coffees and tea and lemonade on their menu that changes every day.
Gigi’s is located at 6027 Metcalf Ave., between Chick-fil-a and Culver’s, and is open Monday through Saturday from 7a.m. – 9 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
