Spotted (and heard) in NEJC: Barred owls galore

We’ve gotten a handful of interesting wildlife submissions over the past week. Reader Joe Hoffman posted this picture of two barred owls in his backyard on our Facebook page:

And he wasn’t the only one to encounter the dark-eyed birds. Allison Domingues and her husband Jason were watching television a couple of weeks ago when they heard some interesting sounds coming through the window. When they went outside to investigate, they found to barred owls perched in a tree next to their garage. They shot the following video, which captured the birds hooting:

“As soon as we stopped recording, they flew right over our heads to another tree across the street,” Allison said. “It was a truly breathtaking experience.”
