Friday’s gloomy weather was a fitting backdrop for Lancer baseball and lacrosse fans, who watched their teams come oh-s0-close to championship titles only to fall short.
The baseball team got out to 3-0 lead over SM Northwest in the 6A semi-final game, but gave up two runs in the bottom of the fifth to allow the Cougars within a run. The Cougars pounced in the sixth, adding three more runs, and the Lancers could never recover. The Lancers walked away from the tournament with the state third place title. Lawrence Free State went on to beat SM Northwest in the title game.
In the Lacrosse Association of Kansas City championship game Friday night, top-ranked Olathe jumped out to an early lead, and while the Lancers nipped at the Hawks’ heels all night long, they couldn’t overcome Olathe’s exacting offensive attack, and dropped the game 13-11.
Congrats to both the baseball and lacrosse teams on great seasons!
