Stratton seated as Leavens steps down from Shawnee Mission School Board. Shawnee Mission School Board Member Joan Leavens resigned Wednesday from her at-large seat. Leavens did not seek re-election this year and chose to step down several weeks before her term ended. Several board members praised her volunteer service. “You’ve been an amazing member at-large,” said Board Member Patty Mach. “You really have embraced the entire district. You’ve treated this office as a higher calling.” After her resignation, the board seated Brad Stratton, who voters elected this year to serve in the at-large position.

Lancers Lacrosse to face Olathe East in LAKC Championship Friday night. Assuming the weather allows for the game to be played as schedules, the Lancers Lacrosse team will face top-ranked Olathe East for the Lacrosse Association of Kansas City title tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Durwood Stadium on the campus of UMKC. The Hawks were the only LAKC team to defeat the Lancers in the regular season.

Shawnee Mission lunch program starts Monday. Starting Monday the SM School District will serve free lunch to all children ages one to 18. The meals, which are funded entirely by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, include a hot entrée and a choice of several sides. Lunch is served to children only from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at Apache, Bluejacket-Flint, Comanche, Merriam Park, Nieman, Rising Star and Shawanoe elementary schools.
