Northeast Johnson County’s two largest high schools have been recognized for their top-notch musical productions in this year’s Blue Star Award nominations.

The Blue Star Awards honor the best performances and productions from high school musical theatre across the Kansas City area.

This year, SM East’s Austin Dalgleish is nominated in both of the top categories for performances by an actor. He’s up for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of vice principal Douglas Panch in “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” staged at SM East in October. Dalgleish is also nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Lead role for his portrayal of Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors, which SM East performed in February.

SM North’s Cassie Diebold is nominated in the Outstanding Female Ensemble Member category for her role in Oliver, which hit the stage in January. SM North is also nominated in the category of Outstanding Scenic Design and Construction, Tier II ($1,851+).

SM East students Lily Kaufmann and Maddie Roberts won the Outstanding Actress in a Lead Role award in 2013 and 2014.
