Wet weather can’t stop these bikers in Roeland Park. Despite a wet morning, Roeland Park celebrated Saturday with its combination of Earth Day, Arbor Day and New Tree Day event at R Park. The combination event marked the planting of the new trees at the park. Bike safety was part of the day and the weather couldn’t stop the enthusiasm for a morning ride.

Registration open for Lancer Gridiron Club Golf Tournament and Auction. Registration has opened for the fifth annual Lancer Gridiron Club Tournament and Auction, to be held Monday, July 29 at Milburn Country Club. The cost for individual golfers is $150 and for a team of four is $600. There will also be a party at Milburn at 6 p.m. that night that costs $20 per attendee. Neighbor helped alert police to burglary in progress in Prairie Village. A woman who called the police around 11:30 a.m. Monday helped them apprehend three males who were attempting to rob a home near 74th Street and Canterbury in Prairie Village. Four NEJC students inducted to Phi Kappa Phi. Four area natives have been inducted to Phi Kappa Phi, one of the nation’s most selected college honor societies. To be eligible, college students must be among the top 10 percent of seniors or 7.5 percent of juniors. The local inductees are: Joshua Furnas of Merriam, UMKC; Susan Marvil of Mission, UMKC; Thomas Bristow of Mission, UMKC; and Hannah Copeland of Prairie Village, UMKC.

Dr. Chapman meeting Jackson Hole community. Dr. Gillian Chapman, who is leaving the Shawnee Mission School District as associate superintendent on July 1 to take the job of superintendent at the Teton County School Deistrict No. 1, will meet the community today.
