Nancy Hupp voluntarily ended a 10-year run as Merriam City Council President Monday night saying, “the time has come for me to step back.”
Hupp, who was just elected to a new four-year term, has been a member of the council since 2003. “It has been a privilege to represent the city,” she said. Hupp nominated Councilor Chris Hands to take over the office. Hands was approved unanimously by the full council.
Newly-elected councilor and former Merriam Fire Chief Bob Pape was elected vice-president of the council.
The council elects new officers every two years. Hupp and Hands both represent Ward 3. Hands’ current term on the council expires in 2017 and Hupp’s in 2019.
