Art Event returns to Kansas City Christian this weekend. Kansas City Christian’s annual art show and party return to the Prairie Village school starting tonight with a party featuring live music from The HymNuts from 7-10 p.m. Saturday’s events, which will feature family activities in addition to the displays from 30 artists, run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the event is free.

SM East students nail sections of the SAT. SM East junior Bhavish Dinakar and Claire Whittaker got some happy news from the College Board earlier this spring. Dinakar earned a perfect 800 on both the math and writing sections of the college entrance exam. Whitaker earned a perfect 800 on the reading section. Congrats, brainy Lancers!
Shawnee Mission School Board changes Monday schedule. The Shawnee Mission School Board will hold a work session starting at 6 p.m. Monday, April 27. The regular board meeting will begin at 7 p.m. The work session had been scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday, but an executive session has now been scheduled for that time. The executive session notice did not cite a topic, but said it was to consult on a matter privileged under attorney-client relationship. A budget workshop scheduled for Monday has been moved to May 27. Agendas for work sessions are normally not listed in advance, only those for regular meetings.
Burglary at BP station in Mission. Mission police report an overnight burglary occurred at the BP gas station on Johnson Drive overnight Wednesday when the business was closed. A window was broken out during the attempt at entry.
SM East golfers finish second at Lawrence Free State tourney. SM East showed strong, but couldn’t catch Washburn Rural in the Lawrence Free State Invitational tournament played at Eagle Bend golf course Tuesday. SM East’s Corey Knabe and Andy Spencer finished among the top five individuals, helping propel the Lancers to a second place team finish.
More SM East students qualify for national tournament. Several SM East students have qualified to participate in the National Speech and Debate tournament to be held in Dallas this June. Parker Mitchell qualified in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Josh Fowler and Bhavish Dinakar qualified in duo interpretation. Jacob Roberts qualified in humorous interpretation. They will join SM East students Ali Dastjerdi, Henry Walter, Spencer Mitchell, and Will Bledsoe who qualified for the national tournament during debate season.
