Color runs, like this one in St. Cloud Minnesota, have become popular community events across the country.

On May 9, the SM East community will be a colorful mess for a good cause.

The SM East student council is organizing the first ever Love Fund Color Run to benefit an organization that provides financial assistance to students in need. The 5K run will wind through the neighborhoods around the school and will feature three “color stations,” where runners will be hit with non-toxic dyes. There will be dye stations at the start and the finish of the race at SM East, as well as a midway station at Kansas City Christian.

Money from the event will go to the Love Fund, which provides aid to students for needs they can’t afford. For example, the fund recently paid for the eye doctor visit and prescription glasses for a student whose vision was an impediment to learning but whose family couldn’t afford glasses.

Student Council member Noah Marsh said the focus of the event would be on fun.

“It’s not officially timed by local run companies, simply because it’s a fun race for the community,” he said.

To pre-register for the run, download the registration form from the Harbinger here. The cost is a $30 donation for adults and a $15 donation for students. Participants can register the day of the race from 8 a.m. to 8:50.
