Three Roeland Park police officers this morning caught a burglar who had been pilfering items from parked cars in the area for the past month.

Police had a report on a car and license plate number associated with previous crimes, and set up surveillance in the area of 4950 Roe Avenue around 8:30 a.m. to see if the car would return. Lo and behold, Detective Robert Mason, Sgt. Cory Honas, and Chief John Morris saw the suspect vehicle pull into the parking lot, where the driver stopped next to an SUV and got out. The man opened the unlocked passenger side of the vehicle, at which point the officers intervened and handcuffed the man. The officers found several stolen items in the man’s car. He is being taken to Johnson County Jail.

“Just another way of working hard to make Roeland Park a safer place,” said Morris.
