Sheila Myers was named to the Prairie Village City Council Monday, filling the unexpired term of Laura Wassmer, who was elected to a four-year term as mayor earlier this month.

Myers was appointed to the seat by Wassmer and confirmed by the city council. The term Myers is filling expires in 2018, representing Ward 4. Myers ran for the city council seat in 2010 and was defeated by Wassmer, although they both survived the primary.

In her application for the council seat, Myers says that she works on contract with Hallmark as a copywriter and proofreader, but has previous experience writing for several publications. Myers holds an MBA and has 12 years experience in finance and marketing.

Originally from Michigan, she has lived in Ward 4 for 18 years. She served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic where she met her husband of 25 years. They have three daughters who all have attended St. Ann and SM East.

Myers has been involved in the community gardens in Prairie Village as well as a number of other school and civic volunteer positions.
