New council seated in Roeland Park.  New council members took the oath of office and their seats Monday night in Roeland Park before a full house. The council seating followed a reception for both the new and departing members. Starting new terms Monday were incumbent Becky Fast (far left) and new members Tim Janssen (second from left) Erin Thompson (second from right) and Michael Poppa (far right).

Judges deny Shawnee Mission motion to intervene in school finance suit. The three-judge panel considering the ongoing Kansas school finance lawsuit on Monday denied the Shawnee Mission School District’s request to intervene in the case. Shawnee Mission had filed the motion to intervene after the board directed district lawyers to make the case that its interests were not being represented by the plaintiff districts, many of which are smaller and more rural. Legislative forum Wednesday in Prairie Village. Reps. Melissa Rooker and Barbara Bollier will appear at a legislative forum from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Prairie Village City Hall. Shawnee Mission Health is the sponsor.

Healthy Kids Day at YMCA. The Paul Henson YMCA in Prairie Village will celebrate Healthy Kids Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to kick start physical activity and learning. It is a free community event for children and their families and will feature a concert by Mr. Stinky Feet.

Lancer Lacrosse to take on Rockhurst Thursday. Rivals Rockhurst and the Lancers will meet on the lacrosse field this Thursday. The JV game starts at 6 p.m. and the varsity game starts at 7:30 p.m. on the Rockhurst field.

Community shredding and e-cycling event set for Saturday. Westwood, Fairway, Mission, Mission Hills, Mission Woods, Roeland Park and Westwood Hills are hosting a e-cycling and paper shredding event this Saturday in the Fairway City Hall parking lot, 4210 Shawnee Mission Parkway. The free event, open to residents of those cities, will be 8-11 a.m.
