Police fire shots at suspect in Prairie Village after vehicle hits officer

Neighbors in the area around 75th Street and Belinder Road awoke to the sound of gunfire early Sunday, as Prairie Village police tried to stop a suspect who hit an officer with a car.

Police released the following statement on the incident Sunday morning:

On April 19, 2015 at approximately 0323 hours a Prairie Village officer conducted a traffic stop in the 7400 block of Belinder Avenue. The suspect vehicle struck the officer and the backing officer fired rounds at the vehicle. The suspect vehicle fled the scene and a pursuit ensued into Kansas City, MO then back into Prairie Village. The pursuit ended in the 7200 block of Belinder Avenue and the suspect was taken into custody. No injuries were sustained by the officer or the suspect.

As of 9:45 a.m., police were still on the scene investigating, with Belinder blocked off from 71st Street to 75th Street.
