Shawnee Mission tentatively moves last day of school from May 29 to 22

Assuming a spring storm doesn’t throw things off track, Shawnee Mission students will be reaching summer break sooner than expected.

Because the district has yet to use any of the four snow days built in to this year’s calendar, Superintendent Jim Hinson announced last night that the district is planning to shift the last day of school from the original Friday, May 29, back a week to Friday, May 22.

It isn’t the first time in recent history that a mild winter has brought summer break to students earlier than planned. In 2012, the district didn’t use either of the two snow days it built into the schedule and moved its last day up accordingly.
