Work is expected to begin soon on a Qdoba Mexican Grill in Mission.

The fast-casual Mexican chain will be located in the former Schlotzsky’s on Johnson Drive, which recently closed.

A note in window of the Johnson Drive location says the owner of the Schlotzsky’s in Mission and in Liberty sold both properties to Qdoba. The Mission Schlotzsky’s had been in business for nine years.

Work is expected to begin soon on the remodel, Mission City Adminstator Laura Smith told City Council members this week. A remodeling plan was submitted that calls for tenant finish changes to the interior, new signs, awnings, patio fencing and decorative details, she said.

Qdoba specialize in customized burritos, nachos, quesadillas and tacos. Qdoba used to have several franchise-owned locations in the metro area but they closed several years ago. The closest location to Kansas City is currently in Topeka.
