Shawnee Mission School Board candidate forum scheduled for Tuesday at McEachen

The board room in the district’s administration center will be the site of a candidate forum Tuesday.

Voters in the Shawnee Mission School District will get a chance to hear from candidates in the contested races for school board Tuesday night, March 10. The forum is being hosted by the Shawnee Mission Area Council (SMAC) PTA and co-hosted by Prairie Village Post and the Johnson County League of Women Voters.

The forum will start a 7 p.m. at the school district’s McEachen Administrative Center, 7235 Antioch Rd., in the board room.

Candidates who have been invited include Brad Stratton and Elizabeth Rulo, who are running for the at-large seat that is open this year and incumbent board member Sara Goodburn and Mark Ellis who are running for the seat that represents the SM North area. Those are the seats that affect northeast Johnson County this year.

The at-large position is now held by Joan Leavens, who did not file for re-election after one term on the board. Running unopposed this year are incumbents Deb Zila and Patty Mach for the other two seats on the ballot.

The candidates will field a series of questions during the forum that have been put together by SMAC.
