American Idol contestant playing free concert at Village Presbyterian Friday

Village Presbyterian church is again opening its sanctuary to the community for a free concert.

Singer/songwriter Sam Burchfield will play 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Burchfield got his start playing coffee shops and other small venues near his home of Seneca, S.C., before moving to Athens, Ga., where he attended college and won the statewide Campus Superstar singing competition in 2013. In 2014, he was a contestant on American Idol. A video from his debut album is embedded below:

Though the concert is free, Village Presbyterian and the Shawnee Mission East Coalition Club, which is co-sponoring the event, will accept donations for LOVE 146, a non-profit that works to stop child trafficking and exploitation.

Last March, blues guitarist Samantha Fish played at the church as part of its Connectional Ministries program.
