A rivalry is a rivalry, no matter what level it’s played at. So when SM East and SM South’s freshman boys squads faced off Thursday ahead of the varsity competitions set for tonight, emotional stakes were high.

As the closing seconds of the fourth quarter drew down, the Lancers found themselves trailing 58-60 on their home court and having to inbound the ball from the opposite site of the court.

It would take a miracle for them to pull off a win. Enter Joseph Brouillette, miracle maker. Brouillette received the inbound pass, took one step, and then…:

Brouillette’s half court shot gave the Lancers a 61-60 lead just as time expired, securing a thrilling win for the home team. (H/T to Cooper McCollough for uploading his video to Vine).

SM East will honor its graduating senior basketball players at halftime of tonight’s varsity games against SM South, with the girls game tipping at 5:30 p.m. and the boys game tipping at 7 p.m at SM East. The boys seniors are Jack Flint, Max Danner, Lucas Jones and Gunnar Englund. The girls seniors are Hannah Nick, Konner Pendland, Rachel Haskell, Katie Spradling and Emma Braasch.
