Marking a frigid start to Lent, Colonial Church in Prairie Village provided its drive-through Ash Wednesday service for the third consecutive year in the church drive at 71st and Mission Road.
Senior minister Aaron Roberts and ministerial intern Shea Zellweger braved the wind and cold this morning to administer the ashes to the much warmer occupants of 31 cars, some of whom were waiting at 7:30 a.m. for the ritual to start. Those partaking of the ritual were mostly dropping children at school or on the way to work – two work trucks pulled through, Zellweger said.
Roberts noted it was the first year a dog has not participated in the service. The Genesis Scripture “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return,” accompanied the marking of the foreheads as did some candy treats.
