For the twelfth year in a row, SM East’s boys swim and dive team has laid claim to the Sunflower League title.
At the aquatic facility at Prairie Trail Middle School in Olathe, the Lancers once again were in dominant form, easily beating the field with 342 total team points. Second place finisher Lawrence Free State had 263.
SM East has now placed first or second in every meet in which it has competed this year.
The team’s attention now turns to state, where the Lancers hope to return to the top spot on the podium after two years of falling just short of the title. They’re sure to face a challenge from defending state champion Blue Valley North, which won the Eastern Kansas League title over the weekend.
The state meet will be Friday, Feb. 20, and Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Capitol Federal Natatorium in Topeka.
