Werner’s, a fixture on Mission’s Johnson Drive, is known for its sausages and meats prepared on site and is a popular attraction at lunchtime. Now, it’s taking the show on the road.
Werner’s has added a food truck that will premier this Saturday with a soft opening. Werner’s owner Dave Miller said they will pull the truck around at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the store for its first trial before it goes on the road.
The menu on the truck will have some new surprises, Miller said, but the best sellers from the store will also be part of the offerings. The truck will head to places with solid employment bases to offer lunch, such as office buildings or factory settings. It can also be requested by an employer to serve a special employee lunch. The truck also will be used to hit events, like First Friday, in the evenings.
Miller said he had been thinking about the food truck possibility for two years. “I wanted to do it right,” Miller said. “(I want it to be a) top notch operation as much as I can make it. I like the challenge and I like the idea of doing it.”
In December Werner’s was the site for filming of a Travel Channel episode of its Food Paradise show. Werner’s will be featured in a future episode called Deli Paradise.
