The wave of redevelopment that’s hit northeast Johnson County is set to spread to the area’s outskirts as well.

LANE4 and The Kroenke Group today released conceptual plans for the redevelopment of the Metcalf South Mall area, including vacant lot that formerly housed the Kmart at 95th Street and Metcalf.

The proposed new development would be called Central Square, and would feature a mix of retail, restaurants, office space, upscale multi-family housing and entertainment venues. Of the existing facilities in the area, only Sears, Red Lobster and the Olive Garden would continue operating. The rest of the area would be completely redeveloped.

The northern part of the 63 acres property would be a “community focused neighborhood center,” according to LANE4’s release on the plans.

The project would comprise 500,000 square feet of retail space, 56,000 square feet of office space and 450 luxury apartment units.

LANE4 President Owen Buckley noted that there is no time frame established for the project, but that the company is hoping to get approval from the city of Overland Park relatively quickly.
