SM North marching band returns from California trip with first place in Holiday Bowl competition

The SM North Marching Indians are back at their desks after a holiday trip to southern California that saw the band bring back some significant trophy hardware.

The band took first place in the Dec. 26th Holiday Bowl “Big Balloon by the Bay” parade competition in San Diego. The band also performed at the Holiday Bowl half-time show and performed in the at Disneyland in the New Year’s Eve “Magic Music Days,” marching through the Magic Kingdom. The Holiday Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego featured USC and Nebraska.

The 108 SM North students traveled for eight days in San Diego, Anaheim, Hollywood and Santa Monica. The band was accompanied on the trip by 24 adults, including parents John Wessling and Katie Bower, who drove a truck full of uniforms and equipment to the west coast and back for the performances.

Chad Reed is the SM North band director, Paul Schapker is associate director and Stephanie Enslinger is the drill team instructor.
