The Roeland Park citizens group that raised the money in 2014 to put a walking trail in R Park is not resting on its past accomplishments. The group has scheduled a 2015 fundraiser in April to continue raising money for park improvements.
The April fundraiser is “BBQ and Bluegrass” which will be a ticketed event at the Roeland Park Community Center. It will feature a barbecue dinner from R.J.’s Bob-be-Que Shack and music by Scotty Lane and his Miner’s Bluff Band. Both are Roeland Park resident-owned businesses. Cinder Block Brewery will provide the brews and soda and water will come from Johnson Drive BP Gas.
Next on the list of improvements in the park are benches, picnic tables, bike racks, and trash receptacles. Trees will be planted along the trail this spring and signs will be added in the park.
Tickets for the April 11 event, which runs from 6 to 9 p.m., are $15 for adults, $8 for children ages 3-12 and free for those under two if purchased in advance. Tickets purchased at the door will be $20 for adults and $10 for children. Pre-sale tickets are available online at www.brownpapertickets.com or delivered to your door by members of the Citizens Fundraising Group through firstname.lastname@example.org.
An “R Park Marketplace” at the event will sell BBQ restaurant gift certificates, BBQ books, tours of “Behind the Pit” BBQ establishments, a rib-cooking class by a local BBQ celebrity, BBQ tools and a variety of sauces.
Donations for park benches can be made through the Roeland Park Community Foundation at city hall.
