Johnson County swears in Board of County Commissioners. Johnson County Judge Kevin Moriarty on Monday swore in the members of the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners who won election and re-election this November. Chairman Ed Eilert, Jason Osterhaus and Michael Ashcraft were all reseated to the commission while former Prairie Village Mayor Ron Shaffer was seated for the first time.

Prairie Village accepting nomination for Arbor Day honoree. The city of Prairie Village’s Tree Board is accepting nominations for this year’s Arbor Day honoree. Each year, the city honors a citizen whose efforts have had a “positive and lasting impact on the community.” The selected honoree will have a tree planted in his or her honor at this year’s Arbor Day ceremony. Nominees may be deceased or living, and both individuals and couples are eligible for consideration. To submit a nomination, fill out the form by Feb. 28.


New Starbucks estimated to open in this spring. The Starbucks planned for the old Taco Bell building on Johnson Drive west of Mission’s downtown will begin the remodeling process in February, according to the city. The work is expected to be completed in April with an opening shortly after. The remodel includes both an interior and exterior renovation.

Reception planned for Martin Rivarola. The city of Mission will hold a farewell reception for Community Development Director Martin Rivarola following the Jan. 21 city council meeting. Rivarola is leaving the city after more than 12 years to become the assistant transportation director at the Mid-America Regional Council.
