SM North will add three new entrants into Hall of Fame: George Shepard, James Pearce, Edgerley siblings

SM North will induct three new members into the school’s Hall of Fame during half-time of the boys varsity basketball game on February 6. The inductees include George “Bud” Shepard, James Pearce and the Edgerley family.

Shepard and Pearce are being inducted for the athletic achievements and the Edgerley family of three siblings are being inducted in the Distinguished Service category recognizing their philanthropic work for the school community.

Shepard played on back-to-back state champion basketball teams in 1943 and 1944. He was an All State selection and an All Kansas City selection in both of those years.

James Pearce was undefeated in javelin competition in 1969.

Pearce was an All-American high school track athlete in the javelin in 1969 and state champion in the javelin in 1969. He also won the Golden West Invitational meet in the javelin that same year. Pearce won the javelin event in every meet he entered in 1969.

The Edgerley family includes siblings Susan, Paul and Steve Edgerley. They graduated from SM North in the 1970s and have been supportive of SM North activities for years. The three have provided significant funding for the SM North Sports Scholarship Fund that that gives scholarships to deserving seniors who have participated in certain activities. The scholarships range from $500 to $1,000 and include nine scholarships named in honor of past coaches at SM North.
