Ron Shaffer this morning relinquished the role as mayor of Prairie Village he had held since April 1999.
Shaffer submitted a formal resignation letter to the city Friday noting that he would be officially stepping out of that office at 8 a.m. Monday ahead of his 9 a.m. swearing in as the District 1 representative on the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners.
In the coming weeks, the Prairie Village council will determine how to fill Shaffer’s seat until the April election to select a new permanent mayor.
Shaffer was elected to serve as Prairie Village mayor four times. He faced only one election day challenger in his four campaigns, City Councilor Michael Kelly in 2011.
