The short list of players named to the Kansas City Star’s All-Metro girls tennis team has some familiar faces for northeast Johnson County residents.

SM East senior Elizabeth Barnickel was named the Star’s All-Metro singles player of the year. Her teammate, freshman Sarah Wilcox, was one of three other local players to make the cut.

In announcing its selections, the Star notes that Barnickel helped propel the Lancers to four consecutive Kansas 6A team titles, and won the state individual singles title this year. Wilcox went 24-5 in her first high school campaign.

Barnickel plans to play tennis for the Air Force Academy next year.
