The Bar opened in Mission on Monday to a packed house.
The highly-anticipated opening of the neighborhood bar and grill comes after months of work to transform the former gas station and auto repair shop at 6101 Johnson Drive.
Manager Greg Otey said the bar and grill opens at 11 a.m. for lunch and closes at 1:30 a.m. daily. The kitchen closes at 11 p.m. The menu includes salads, wraps, burgers and entrees. Patrons will find selections like a thai chili chicken wrap, buffalo burger, jalapeno onion-string burger, French dip and sides that include white cheddar macaroni and cheese, Boulevard beer-battered onion rings and edamame. The Bar also offers daily food and drink specials, happy hour from 2 to 6 p.m. weekdays and a reverse happy hour from 9 p.m. to close nightly.
“We are proud of our food,” Operating Partner Barry Wiser told the Prairie Village Post in August. “All of our veggies are cut fresh and the meat is never frozen.
The food is “made to order.”
Otey said The Bar has 12 beer taps, a wide variety of craft beers and a full bar.
The restaurant also features an outdoor patio and 18 TV’s including one in every booth where patrons can watch the game of their choice. There are plans to add live music within the next several months, Otey said.
The owners are not new to the bar and grill business. The same group owns Bar West near Renner Road and I-435 in Shawnee. The Bar will use the same menu as Bar West, which has been operating for five years.
