There are nearly 100 schools fielding football teams in Kansas City metro area leagues.

According to the Kansas City Star, the best coach from among all those schools in 2014 was SM East’s Dustin Delaney.

The paper on Saturday named Delaney its All-Metro Coach of the Year.

In two years with the Lancers, Delaney has led the team to a 24-2 record with two state title appearances and the 2014 6A state championship — the first in SM East’s 57 seasons. In fact, in just two years, Delaney has already become the fourth winningest coach in school history. He needs just two wins to surpass his predecessor, Chip Sherman, on the list.

The Star’s honor isn’t the only one Delaney has received after his team’s perfect 2014 campaign. Last week, USA Today named him the Kansas Coach of the Year, and was named the Wichita Eagle/VarsityKansas.com top coach as well.
