The Shawnee Mission School Board extended the contracts for Superintendent Jim Hinson and Deputy Superintendent Kenny Southwick through June 30, 2018. That adds one year to the superintendent’s contract that was set to expire in 2017 after being renewed last summer. Southwick’s contract now runs for the same time period as Hinson’s.
Hinson’s contract calls for an automatic one-year extension on the current three-year term unless the board gives written notice of non-renewal by December 31. Hinson said he had asked the board to vote on the contracts each year, rather than let them roll over automatically. The vote was unanimous.
The contract extensions did not change any other terms of the agreement including salary and benefits. Compensation is to be reviewed each year before June 30. Last July the board extended Hinson’s contract to 2017 and gave him a raise on his one-year anniversary date with the district.
Southwick was hired in March as deputy superintendent and given a three-year contract at that time. He is a former Belton Superintendent with a strong background in special education.
