Pediatric patients at the University of Kansas Hospital were the beneficiaries of an Eagle Scout project completed this fall by SM North student Noah Hastings.
Hastings coordinated teams that raised more than $6,300 to purchase items that would be used exclusively by pediatric patients at the hospital. Noah’s original goal was to raise $4,000. The funds will supply each of 25 rooms in the newly renovated pediatric unit with wall-mount CD players and iPod docks. It also will provide the unit with new CDs, DVDs, Xbox games and items for music therapy, including xylophones, recorders and a new guitar. After the purchases, another $1,600 will be available for future needs.
A total of 631 volunteer hours were logged for the project which included four major fundraisers: a garage sale, car wash, pancake breakfast and dance party.
Noah is a member of the troop at Merriam Christian Church. At SM North he is part of the Choir Executive Board and the Drama Executive Board and has worked on crews for several stage productions. He is Pep Club co-vice president and a member of thespians.
