You can’t say they weren’t planning on becoming champions.

On August 5, 2014, SM East head coach Dustin Delaney oversaw his football players grind out the final day of a grueling summer fitness program, and then hopped in a car to Emporia. There, he and team videographer Brian Libeer shot the following video:

The team didn’t see it until the week of their 6A title game against Hutchinson.

On Sunday, as players and parents packed the SM East gym for the annual football banquet, the players had a new video to watch, this one celebrating everything they’d accomplished. Settle in, Lancer Fans, for nine minutes of amazing highlights:

Putting the state title and the undefeated record aside for a moment, this SM East team put its mark in the record books on a number of fronts. Among them:

  • Most points ever scored by a Sunflower League team
  • Most points scored by a 6A football team in 2014
  • Fewest points allowed by a 6A football team in 2014
  • Widest average margin of victory by a Sunflower League team in both a nine- and 13-game season

Congrats, Lancers, on a historic 2014 season. (And special thanks to Brian Libeer for the great videos all season long).
