Roeland Park ‘Community Walk on the Trail’ set for Saturday morning

The trail in R Park is now open. It is the first of the projects funded by the citizens group.
The trail in R Park will be the site for a community walk and ribbon-cutting Saturday.

The Roeland Park “Community Walk on the Trail” and a ribbon-cutting for the new walking trail through R Park will be held Saturday morning.

The new trail, accomplished with citizen fundraising efforts and a matching grant from the Sunflower Foundation, winds through R Park at 5535 Juniper. Mayor Joel Marquardt and Greg Smith, chair of the parks commitee, will preside over the ribbon-cutting at 11 a.m.

Everyone is then invited to celebrate the culmination of the project by walking the trail, reading the inspirational signs along the way and enjoying hot chocolate and cookies. The event will be held rain, shine or snow on Saturday.

Packages of R Park special blend Roasterie Coffee will be for sale at the ribbon-cutting. Sale of the coffee helps raise money for the next phase of the R Park improvements, which include benches, picnic tables, bike racks and trash receptacles.
