On Tuesday, it was looking like Thanksgiving Day might be kind of lonesome around the Payne household.
The family’s dog, Buster, a Wheaton-Poodle mix, got out of the house last Sunday night, and despite posting fliers and online forum notices, the family hadn’t had any strong leads. But after Laura Sternberg Payne posted a note about Buster on the shawneemissionpost.com Facebook page Tuesday, the Paynes got a message from a reader who said she’d seen the dog running near 79th and Norwood. The Facebook post reached more than 12,000 people.
“It was the first good lead we had,” Payne said.
Later that day, she got a call from a young woman who found Buster and got him to follow her into a backyard in a neighborhood near State Line Road. The Paynes were reunited with the family dog Tuesday afternoon.
“He was exhausted and his pads were a little torn up, but he’s back and he’s safe,” Payne said. “It wouldn’t have been Thanksgiving without him.”
