SM East students officially pepped for state title game

Do these Lancer fans want a state championship? Yes, yes they do.

There’s a football game on Saturday, okay? But it’s not just, like, any football game. It’s a very special football game. For it is a game in which the Lancers of SM East will have the chance to attain the once seemingly unattainable goal of bringing a 6A title back to the intersection of 75th Street and Mission Road.

On Tuesday, the SM East student body packed into the school’s gym to hear from the school’s players, coaches and administrators at a pep rally — the first of several “let’s-get-pumped” gatherings before kickoff in Emporia Saturday.

Among the speakers yesterday was head basketball coach Shawn Hair, who touted football coach Dustin Delaney’s much-improved media skills (sorry for the shaky video):

The Lancers will continue to continually do what they do Saturday at 1 p.m. against the Hutchinson Salt Hawks in the state 6A title game at Welch Stadium in Emporia. See ya there!

Players Sam Huffman and Will Oakley told the assembled Lancer mass that they wanted it to be loud at Welch Stadium Saturday, loud enough that Hutchinson's offense "can't hear a thing."
