Donations for homeless accepted this morning at Sylvester Powell. The city of Mission is holding a clothing drive this morning from 7 a.m. to noon at the Sylvester Powell Community Center, 6200 Martway, in the north parking lot. The clothing drive will benefit the Uplift organization, a nonprofit working with the homeless in the Kansas City metro. Items needed include coats, hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, white socks, plastic tarps, sleeping bags, candles, toilet paper and books. Mission police will be in the parking lot to unload donations from cars.
North area winter art gala Dec. 3. Artwork created by students in kindergarten through 12th grade will be on display at the North Area Winter Art Gala which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 3 at SM North. The gala also will include face painting, a photo booth, live music and live art demonstrations.
