SM East’s Shelby Harvey commits to Ottawa softball. SM East pitcher and infielder Shelby Harvey on Wednesday signed her letter of intent to play college softball with Ottawa University. “Shelby has the ability to keep batters guessing as she can throw any pitch on any count,” Ottawa coach Jay Kahnt told the school’s website. “She will be a great fit into the university in the classroom and on the field. NEJC couples first in line for marriage licenses in Douglas County. A couple from Roeland Park, Vicki Buchanan and Angie Crowley were the first in line to get their same sex marriage license in Douglas County where a district court judge waived the three-day waiting period. A couple from Leawood was next in line. Same sex marriage licenses are not being issued in Johnson County because of an order from the Kansas Supreme Court. New education commissioner not from Shawnee Mission. The Kansas State Board of Education picked Randy Watson, superintendent of McPherson School District as the state’s new education commissioner on a 7-3 vote Thursday.
