Mayor’s Holiday Tree Lighting set for Dec. 4 in Prairie Village. Outgoing Prairie Village Mayor Ron Shaffer will preside over his final tree lighting ceremony the first week of December. The city announced this week that the 29th annual installment of the festivities at Corinth Square will run 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4. Details from the city of Prairie Village here.
SM East defensive end Kyle Ball gets second DI offer. SM East defensive end and Sunflower League quarterbacks’ nightmare Kyle Ball on Saturday received his second scholarship offer from an NCAA Division I program, this time close to home. Ball was in Lawrence to take in the Jayhawks win over Iowa State and found out KU was extending him an offer to go along with the offer he got a few weeks ago from Air Force Academy. Ball has yet to commit to a college.
Save Mission comes out of retirement. Bill Nichols’ long-running web site SaveMission.Net had gone into retirement with changes in city government this year. The last posting had been Laura Smith’s appointment as city administrator and the site observed the city was in good hands. The announcement of the new Gateway plan last weeek prompted Nichols to bring the site out of retirement, even if briefly.
Johnson Drive gets three pedestrian beacons. Beverly, Woodson and Reeds will have pedestrian crossing beacons that will allow pedestrians wanting to cross Johnson Drive in Mission to activate a flashing beacon to get cars to stop. The beacons will be installed in final touchups for the Johnson Drive completion.
