The Little Flower Shop may have only been open for a few hours, but things were already bustling in the new Westwood Hills shop Wednesday afternoon.
Owner Leslie Brett darted about, finalizing details for a flower delivery one of her sons would make, while store manager Chuck Matney got to work arranging stems in a vase. Several workers buzzed through the space, taking additional orders and putting the finishing touches on displays in the shop.
Brett and Matney decided to open the shop together earlier this year, and took over the space that had housed Annedore’s Fine Chocolates until August. After several months of renovation, the two were ready to open for business this week. The store offers fresh floral arrangements by Matney and a variety of gift items — including holiday decor galore.
“We love holidays,” Brett said. “We will do every holiday up right. We’ve got Christmas now, and then right into Valentine’s Day. Then Easter, the Fourth of July — for every holiday, we’ll change it up.”
Brett and Matney had to refinish the back half of the store, which had been the Annedore’s prep kitchen, install new flooring and fixtures, and repaint. Prepping to launch a new business is a busy time for any owner, but Brett’s scheduled was compounded by the fact that the Royals, the team for which her husband George played 20 years, made the World Series, packing the family’s calendar.
“Seriously the first time I decide to open a business, and they decide to go to the World Series for the first time in 29 years?” she joked. “It was crazy.”
The Little Flower Shop is at 5006 State Line Road in the Westwood Hills Shops. It will be open 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.
