Okay…so now it’s time to accentuate the positive!

The Royals may have come up short on Wednesday, but the dramatics of a Game Seven attracted an expected audience of around 20 million households. And when those millions of fans first tuned in to the broadcast, they were greeted by the stately voice of northeast Johnson County native Joyce DiDonato.

DiDonato, born Joyce Flaherty, went on from her childhood attending St. Ann and Bishop Miege to become one of the world’s most celebrated mezzo-sopranos. Her career has seen her as the featured performer on the opera world’s biggest stages, from Paris to New York. On Wednesday, the biggest stage in the world just happened to be 13 miles from her native Prairie Village in front of home plate at Kauffman Stadium. In case you missed it, here’s DiDonato’s performance of the National Anthem:

DiDonato’s performance got generally high marks from observers, though she did stumble on her way off the field.
